It has officially be raining ice pelets (I don't think that makes sense, but I have no idea how to explain it) since I woke up at 5am, and it is now 10am. The storm seems to be moving through, but our temperature will nto get above 30 today so we should keep most iof what has fallen. It's not anything fun to play in, kinda slushy and will not make a snow ball. However, it did get me a day off of work so it is GORGEOUS to me!
Well, we are iced in today! After all the talk about the ice storm over the weekend that never came we got it today. Last night on the 10pm news it said that the ice storm was going to stay to the south of us, we would be cold but "no occumulation." We woke up this morning to 1/2" of ice covering everything and sleet falling. No school for me! Kevin will probably not go in, or at least wait until this afternoon. Ethan and Priscilla will be home all day because their school is closed as well. Aaron ventured out early this morning for his weekly breakfast, but may be coming back home soon as well. The best part is this time we are not sick, we can actually have fun with the day.
Well, Kevin's birthday was everything but exciting this year. Let me give you the long, drawn out version of what happened:
Well, our friends Aaron and Kay Ellen Crawford have a baby due March 3. They were having a baby shower in Bedford (just outside of Ft. Worth) on Saturday, January 13th. This, of course, is Kevin's birthday. Well, this baby shower was a couples baby shower. I had never heard of that, but because it was being thrown by Aaron's mother for people that primarily knew Aaron when he was young it only seemed appropriate. Kevin had sworn up and down (long before this ever came up) that he would NEVER go to a couples shower. Showers were for women. I thought it was pretty funny that this was the first couples shower we had been invited to and it was on his birthday. Being that Aaron and Kay Ellen are some of our closest friends I knew he wouldn't miss it! Well, Aaron and Priscilla were also invited, but Aaron had already planned on going out of town. So, the plan was that Kevin, Priscilla, Ethan and I would head to Bedford for the shower. That was before the "dreadful" weather was headed our way. In Texas cold weather can be bad, but even if there is potential for severe cold the only thing on TV is weather. So, starting Friday evening there was only weather forcasts predicting an "Arctic Blast" to hit all of north Texas. We watched the news Saturday morning to determine whether we were going to brave the storm. It seemed to be moving in quickly, then stopped just before it reached us. We got a ton of rain, but no freezing rain that was expected. However, the storm seemed pretty unpredictible, so we chose to stay in the Dallas area. Ft. Worth already had frozen bridges and over passes, we didn't want to get out there and get stuck. Ethan and I baked some birthday cupcakes in the morning. We decided instead to go out to Salt Grass for lunch. We assumed that when the "Arctic Blast" came through we might get stuck inside in the evening and the next day. Did I tell you that Texas tends to over exaggerate it's winter storms? We got home and braced for the storm...that never came. Saturday morning Priscilla nad woke up with what we thoought were bad allergies. After lunch we were pretty wiped out. We sat on the couch and by 5pm we were sleeping, feeling like we had a cold and not just allergies. We opted to stay home from church, surely this huge storm would hit while we were at church, and we didn't feel good anyway. So after we ate some leftovers for dinner Kevin got to blow out all 34 candles on 34 cupcakes.
OK, so here is some more sports talk. I know some of you are still not very interested in all the sports, but I can't help but be excited about this. The Lady Jackets of Rockwall High School were ranked #4 IN THE NATION by USA Today! How can you not be excited about that? That means that there are only 3 teams in the whole country that are better than us. WOW! The truth is, what do polls mean anyway? If any of you are interested in the BCS we could go on and on about rankings and bowl game selection. It is really just an opinion of someone (or some people) who think they know who is the best. Whatever the rankings may mean I am extremely grateful to the person who KNOWS that the Rockwall Lady Jackets are #4 in the nation!!!
(I was unable to post pictures, but I will get check back later to see if I can add them)
Welcome to 2007 everyone!
Kevin and I have been very busy during this holiday week. I was able to have 10 days off! That is unheard of!!! I enjoyed every minute of it. Kevin was out of town until December 22nd, but then he got Christmas Day and the 26th off. We just hung out all weekend. It was nice to be able to have conversations with each other lasting longer than 5 minutes. Kevin got some sort of stomach bug on Christmas night, so that was no fun. Especially since may parents and our nephew Scott were arriving on the 26th. He took the 27th off because he had no energy and was unable to eat much, but was feeling much better by the next day.
My parents and Scott got here on the evening of the 26th. My parents stayed one night and then headed down to San Antonio. When our nieces and nephews turn 13 they get a trip to Texas, so this was Scott's trip. It wouldn't have been quite as fun if Grandma and Grandpa would have been here the whole time. So then it was time to play. Most of the time Scott played video games. You see, at Aunt Allison and Uncle Kevin's house there are no rules. Video games for five hours? SURE! Cookie dough for lunch? SURE! Candy for breakfast? SURE! I think he had fun. We ended up cramming a bunch of stuff into a few days. We went to Dave and Busters (and restaurant with TONS of video games), Six Flags, to see A Night At The Museum, Ripley's Believe It or Nor Museum, The Sixth Floor Museum, Bass Pro Shop and Kevin took Scott fishing. It was quite a trip. It was very fun, maybe a little too short, but still VERY fun!!!
everyone left on the 30th. That morning Kevin and I went to look at a truck we had found online, and ended up buying it! We had been looking for a bigger truck for Kevin and we were very fortunate to find this one, we got a GREAT deal on it! So, then it was back home to drop off the truck. We were on our way to Houston for the evening, and we were going to stop off in College Station where the Rockwall girls basketball team was playing the in the championship game. It took a little longer to buy the truck so we were just going to head down to Houston. Our friends in Bryan (right next to College Station) knew were had planned on stopping there so they wanted to go out eat to, well they told us about the fancy restaurant they were going to take us to so we decided to head down there anyway. They took us to a place called Christopher's very fancy and the food was awesome. Because our anniversary was the next day we were given a special treat with our dessert. Thanks Aaron and Kay Ellen for treating us to a wonderful time!
Then it was down to Houston for the Texans game. This was our anniversary gift to each other. I must say, not too many men could say that their wife would actually ENJOY going to a football game on their anniversary. We had a great time, especially since the Texans won!!!
Then it was back to Garland to celebrate the New Year. The Swansons were here and so were some friends the Humphreys. We just ate and played some games! That was the end of our whirlwind week. We got to see family, do fun activities, hang out with friends, celebrate our anniversary, watch sports and relax. We couldn't think of a better way to end one year and begin another!
