In the books
Well, one more season in the books. ARGH! We had that game. I could take you through it, but it's just too painful. We should have and could have won. We were a better team that day, but we just couldn't finish when it was the most important. We had some key injuries, including a torn hamstring during a run toward the endzone...which would have tied the game. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...but didn't. It's so sad!

Game Day
Well you have been held in suspense long enough. Rockwall held off Sacshe 48-20 and ended the season at 6-4 and 5-2 in district. The Jackets finished in 2nd place in distric behind South Garland.
Today at 4:00 PM, the Jackets will face the Plano Wildcats, who have a long playoff and championship history. Plano finished second in their district as well, losing only to Allen. A video preview of the game is on dallasnews.com/hsgametime if you are interested. Both dudes predict Plano to win. This should be a great game, just like last year's first rounder (Plano East 31, Rockwall 24).
The games have already started at Texas Stadium this morning at 10AM with Allen-Rowlett. Then comes South Garland-Wylie at 1, Rockwall-Plano at 4 and then Naaman Forest-Plano West at 7.
We have a lot riding on this game...including whether or not we eat Thanksgiving dinner next week.

In game update:
Rockwall 34
Sachse 0
No, I didn't bring a laptop to the game, I left at halftime due to boredom. Three minutes into the second quarter, Rockwall was shuffling in all of their players on offense, so the game is not as close as the score makes it seem.
We should find out who the Jackets will play late tomorrow night or Saturday morning.

Playoff bound?

The Jackets appear to be heading back to the playoffs at Texas Stadium after defeating the Naaman Forest Rangers last night 34-27. Rockwall improved to 5-4 on the year and 4-2 in district. The last game of the season is next Thursday against Sachse, who is 2-7 overall and 0-6 in district....oh, no.
Rockwall jumped out to a 21-0 lead last night, but allowed the Rangers to get to the 10 yard line with about two minutes left and a mere 7 point lead. At that point, the defense did what they haven't done all year. They won the game by stopping the Rangers on 4th down. The Jackets have not had trouble moving the ball all year on offense, but the "D" has not stepped up to win a big game.
Rockwall now moves into a three way tie for second in district with Naaman Forest and Rowlett, but has tiebreakers over both teams. South Garland clinched the district last night with a 6-0 record.
In the Texas High School football, four teams from each district make the playoffs. The teams are divided into Division I and II by enrollment numbers. Since Rockwall is the second biggest school in the district, they will play in the 5A-Division I playoffs. As it looks right now, assuming the Jackets beat Sachse next week, Rockwall would play the Plano Wildcats in the playoffs at Texas Stadium. Plano has lost once this year...to Allen, a team that Rockwall is familiar with.
The other potential opponents for Rockwall would be Allen, Plano East and Plano. Rockwall played in the same district as Allen, Plano, Plano East (who beat Rockwall in the playoffs last year) and Plano West a few years ago. The first round will be very tough again if it is any of these teams. Last year we felt like the Jackets were good enough to win 3 or more playoff games, but ended up with a very tough first round opponent. It will be the same this year, since these two talent filled districts play each other in the first round.
All four first round games between the districts will be played at Texas Stadium in a one day quadruple header. I may just find a seat, camp out and overdose on H.S. football all day.
One more final note regarding our win last night: Naaman Forest is the other school Allison interviewed at when we moved to Texas. Not only did they miss out on hiring her, the Jackets have be whoopin 'em ever since.
Scoreboard.
