Happy Valentine's Day and 新年快樂

Well, as most of you know, we are not Valentine's people. Now that means that Kevin REALLY hates Valentine's Day and I don't really care to get gifts or celebrate it too much. However, I have always received gifts from my mom, who has now passed that on to my children, and I do not apologize for buying small Valentine gifts for Kevin or Macey.

This year Valentine's Day and the first day of the Chinese New Year fell on the same day, so I got away with a little more. Macey and I went shopping this morning and returned with some Valentine candy for Kevin, he did not refuse that Valentine gift! I had already planned on making a Chinese dinner, and just added a few things.

I know very little about the traditions of the Chinese New Year, I have a lot to learn before next year so we can start celebrating correctly. I did find out that noodles are a traditional meal served on New Year's Day. The longer the noodle the better, as it represents a long life. So I just made some stir fry noodles with veggies a chicken. I found some fortune cookies dipped in chocolate with some mini candy hearts, I thought that combined the two events well! Then added a glass of red wine, that seemed to add some romance in my mind!

Macey ate a few noodles, but didn't love the attempt I made at Chinese food. She did love the fortune cookie!

I hope everyone celebrated in the way that they wanted to, whether that is super sappy, or by doing nothing at all! I hope that everyone has a healthy and prosperous year of the Tiger!

I have a friend with two kids adopted from china! Her 6 year old daughter told her she "was glad that Mommy and Daddy came and got me from China so I don't have to eat weird Chinese food."
