First, let me correct an error and make a clarification. Garland was number 9 in the State and 7 in the area. Rockwall, although 1-2 was number 18 in the area. As for why this game matters to Rockwall's record: Only district games count toward playoffs. We appologize for not stating that, we just assume that everyone understands Texas High School Football.
Now for the game. At halftime the Garland Owls had a 24-12 lead. They looked like they were in control, until...Rockwall intercepts a pass on the first drive of the second half deep in Owl territory. The Jackets punched it in for a touchdown to make it 24-19. Next drive for Garland: 3 and out. Rockwall- another touchdown (27-24 after 2 point conversion). The Angry Orange defense took over and the district favorite goes down at home 27-24.
Rockwall is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in disctrict 10-5A. In my opinion, the winner of this game will win the district. We'll see how Rockwall plays out the rest of their season as the team to beat. For now, we will celebrate being number 1 and soon to be approaching the top 10 in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Let's all look at the Scoreboad!
Here is what is going on with Kevin, Allison, Lyla, Macey, Xander and Max (coming home soon!)

Garland HS Scouting report
So, we're a few days away from our biggest district showdown. Friday is our first district game, so now our record matters. We play the Garland Owls. They are ranked #9 in the area, Rockwall is not in the top 10. Here are the stats...you tell me why they are ranked and we aren't.
Leading rusher RHS Mathis=371 yds / GHS Hamilton 176 yds. So it doesn't appear like I am padding the stats here are the total rushing yards for the whole team RHS=448 GHS=530. QB RHS Smith=575 yds passing/GHS Hunter=446 yds passing. Leading receiver RHS Dabney= 19 receptions for 256 yds/GHS Johnson=9 receptions for 117 yds. They are supposed to have some awesome defense, but they haven't played the Yellowjackets!

GAME DAY - Final
ROCKWALL 7
SOUTHLAKE 47
Well, you must remember they are considered one of the best in the nation. I think they were scared to death at half-time. The Yellowjackets scared the bajeebers (never really thought how to spell that, never really use that word anyway) out of them! Way to go Jackets! Not everyone in the state would agree to play the #1 team. You went to their house and played your hearts out! I am very proud!
Let's all raise our pinkies (that's the symbol for a yellowjacket stinger) and sing the Rockwall school song:
Hail dear old Rockwall
How we love you
Ever you'll find us
Loyal and true
Our colors flying
Ever so proud
We'll always honor you
With praises loud!

OK, so maybe not what we wanted, but we still have a whole quarter left! I BELIEVE!

GAME DAY - Half time
ROCKWALL 7
SOUTHLAKE 13
It's time for Allison's half-time report. I realize I haven't been watching the game and I have pretty bad radio reception in the gym and my office, but just by the score itself I can tell we are playing well. If you visited the Southlake webpage from a previous post you would see that they typically score a ton of points. Well, as you can see, when they play Rockwall it isn't as easy. Normally by half-time they are putting in some second team players...not tonight folks! They've only scored two field goals and one touchdown.
A note from Kevin at the game - "The offensive line is unbelieveable. They protect the quarterback for an hour and then if he breaks through we can't catch him. He had a Reggie Bush like run."
I like my interpretation better...WE ARE DOING GREAT!
Kevin reminded me that if you want to listen to the radio broadcast it can be found online at www.kxez.com I forgot all about that!
See you after the 3rd quarter!

GAME DAY pre-game
So, do I really think people care about this game as much as I do? No. Am I going to stop writting about it because I think people don't care? No.
It's game day, the buses are already in Southlake. The team is getting taped right now and pretty soon they will have some last minute meetings before they take the field. I am sitting in my office 20 minutes from the start of the volleyball game. I have a radio to listen to the football game. The game doesn't actually start until 7:30pm, and truth be known the volleyball game may be over by then. I will be updating this blog every quarter with highlights and scores. I was going to wait until morning, but I just can't do it. If the volleyball game gets over early enough I may actually drive out to Southlake to watch, however it is an hour drive, so we'll see. So, at about 8pm I should have my first update.

Scouting Report
Friends, I have been waiting a whole week to tell you this. This Friday your Rockwall Yellowjackets will be playing the Dragons from Southlake Carroll. Do you know what this means? Let me take you back few years. On ESPN, broadcast all over the country, was a high school football game between Denton Ryan HS and, yes, Southlake Carroll. Southlake is ranked #1 in the state and #10 in the NATION! They were the state champs in 2002, 2004, and 2005! They are undefeated in the last two years, and there record stands at 63-1. They are a one high school town and every middle school and elementary school colors are green, black and white and they are all the Dragons. The Dragons head coach is Todd Dodge (a former RHS coach) and his son is the QB. Our head coach is Scott Smith and his son is our QB. Riley Dodge, has thrown for 591 yds with 9 TDs, Braden Smith has thrown for 504 yds with 4 TDs. Our leading rusher, Marcus Mathis has rushed for 341 yds with 4 TDs, their leading rusher, Tre Newton, has rushed for 280 yds with 2 TDs. FRIENDS, I think we have a great game on our hands!
I am covering a volleyball that evening, so unfortunately I will not be able to attend. But Kevin will be there and will bring the score and highlights to you Saturday morning!

Kevin's Bulldogs
Many of you know that Kevin coaches soccer and softball for our church's children's sports league. He was so excited this season his soccer team's name is the Bulldogs!
So he quickly ordered some Fresno State Bulldog hats and coaches in them each week.
Here are a few pictures of him in action. His team does pretty well. He is in the 3rd-4th grade division, but he has some kids that are in 1st and 2nd grade because they wanted to play with their older brothers.

Rockwall Yellowjackets Game 2
This week we played on Saturday night rather than Friday. There are a lot of reason, but none of them really matter. We played the Eagles of Allen, TX (booooo). Allen has one high school...with over 5000 students. It is HUGE, and so are their kids. Let me just say we weren't given a chance against them. Rockwall has a history of having a bad football team, and Allen has a history of beating up on everyone.
It started out very similar to last week, we scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. We then followed that with two more in the second. It was Rockwall 33 Allen 14 at half time. We looked like we were on our way to being 2-0. Well, you can see where this is going. We came out a little flat in the second half. Allen must have changed EVERYTHING that they were doing because our defense couldn't stop them and our offense had trouble scoring. To make a long, sad story short the final score was Rockwall 47 Allen 48. I can't stand those Eagles! We have a bye next week so I will not be bringing you any updates. It will probably take you that long to get over the disappointment of this one! :)

Rockwall Yellowjackets!
Ok, since my life is consumed with football right now I thought ya'll would like to go on the journey with me. It should be an exciting year for the Rockwall Yellowjackets (yes, we are the yellowjackets and our colors are orange and white...no one really knows why). Each week you will get an update on the game. Enjoy!
WEEK 0
We call this week 0 because you don't have to play a game, but it is the first week you are allowed to play. We have three non-district games which means they count toward your record, but not toward your standings for the play-offs. The Rockwall Yellowjackets chose to play their first game against the Midland Lee Rebels from Midland, TX. Those of you who saw Friday Night Lights this is the rival team of the Odessa Permian Panthers. This is big time Texas high school football folks. We had to make a weekend out of it because Midland is 350 miles from Rockwall. We left Thursday afternoon and stayed in Abilene, TX which was about half way.
Midland's stadium is incredible. Never mind that it seats 15, 000 (this is high school football) but it has an x-ray facility in the locker room, an athletic trainer's dream!
So, we're all excited because this is west Texas and there is nothing more intense then west Texas high school football. Our head coach, Scott Smith, used to coach at Permian, so these were his old stompin' grounds. KICKOFF! Every one was so excited and it was even more exciting when the kick off was returned to the 5 yard line! Could this really be happening?!?! Were we about to score on the Midland Lee Rebels in the first minute? Next play, hand off to the running back...Yes, we just scored in the first minute of the game. That was followed by two more touchdowns in the first quarter.
UNBELIEVABLE! At half time we had a safety who had a swollen thumb. Now folks, this was exciting for me. We were able to x-ray his thumb on site, put it in a cast and pad him up and put him back on the field...before half-time was over. I'm a big nerd, but I felt like I was in the pros! The second half started off a little rocky, but it didn't take long for us to finish it off.

Today is my parents 40th wedding anniversary! We wanted to take some time to tell them how much we love them and how grateful we are for their commitment to Christ and to each other! We love you!!!
