Final Four

The Rockwall Lady Jackets have advanced to the State Tournament with a 69-53 win over the Bryan Vikings (sorry Aaron and Kay) in the Region 2 Final. The Jackets jumped out to an 11 point lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Vikes fought back to regain the lead a couple of times. Early in the third quarter, Rockwall's leading scorer (signed to play at SMU in Dallas) received her thrid and fourth personal fouls in a matter of seconds. Rockwall trailed 39-38 and had lost momentum. Anybody who knows basketball understands the importance of momentum. Well, the Jackets responded, or at least their guard responded (signed to play at Kevin's alma mater Texas A&M-Commerce) by scoring the next 9 points. With the momentum on their side, the Jackets controlled the rest of the game. It was the greatest display of leadership I have ever seen in sports, and I have seen plenty of sports.
Rockwall won Friday night's semifinal game over the Conroe Lady Tigers (Ligers) by a score of 73-47. The game was pretty much decided in the first quarter as Rockwall jumped out to an 18-0 lead. With 26 seconds left in the quarter, Conroe finally scored. The remainder of the game was pretty much played on cruise control.
The state semifinals matchups are yet to be determined. The gametimes will be 3:30 or 8:30 for the semifinal on Friday night and the final is Saturday night at 8:30.

Current record: 38-0

Side note: Congratulations to our good friends Aaron and Kay of Bryan, Texas (formerly of Rockwall, Texas) who had their baby girl last week.

Waco! Waco! Waco!

Ok, so most of you (non-Texans) think of the Branch Davidian incident when you hear Waco, Tx. Those of here in Texas think of things like Baylor University and the Dr. Pepper Museum. Here at Rockwall HS when we hear Waco we think of the Regional Tournament...and we are on our way!!! The Lady Jackets racked up their 36th win last night over the North Mesquite Stallions! Tomorrow morning we leave and will play on Friday at 6pm and sfte a win we will play on Saturday at 5pm. With two wins in Waco we are headed to the State Tournament in Austin!!!

GO JACKETS!

Happy Valentine's Day from Kevin

Now you may wonder from the title if there is something wrong with Kevin, because you're thinking to yourself, that doesn't sound like something he would say. Well, there is nothing wrong with me, well, not any more than normal. I do think Valentine's day is a bit stupid, if I offend you by that, well, I'm not sorry. Anyway, this rare posting is well overdue after Ross urged me make my prescense known on this internet type thing. I just wanted to show ya'll what I was doing this Valentine's Day and pretty much all week.
Early monday morning I hopped into my Texas Edition "man truck" and pointed it west towards the city of "Sweet Clean Abilene". My company has a jobsite out there that we sample monitor wells on a quarterly basis. This week, I was out there installing additional wells around the neighborhood. The fun part began as the cold front arrived on monday night. Monday's 70 degrees and sun turned to subfreezing temps and snow. It is interesting how clever you become when attempting to pump water out of a well when it is below 20 degrees. Without getting into details, I found ways to keep pumps, meters, and water from freezing up for two days. As I spent my last few hours working on Thursday, the sun came out and the temperature skyrocketed up to near 30 degrees. Wow! 30. No kidding, I was sweatin' like a girls high school baskeball team prior to a game with the Jackets! (read previous blog postings)
Here are some pictures for those of you who wonder what in the world I do for a living. Most people don't understand it anyway. (Allison for one thinks I play in the dirt. Hmm, she's not all that far off)
The pictures are of the drill rig, the finished wells, some soil borings (unfortunately the steam rising from the freshly removed soil failed to show up in the picture) and the giant vaccum cleaning looking device is just that---This is to show us where the gas, sewer and water lines are before we bust 'em with the augers (which would be a very costly mistake). One guy uses a 6' long metal air blaster that breaks up the soil to 5-6' and the vaccum removes the dirt. Fun stuff. Yes, it was very fun despite working 11 hour days when the temps ranged from 18-28.
So there you have it Ross.

Lady Jackets

OK, so I have not mentioned much about the Lady Jackets recently. Partly because I know people get tired of sports talk, and partly because they just kept winning! Tonight is the first playoff game. We are playing Wylie High School. I won't say too much but you have to read this article. It will tell you everything you need to know about the Lady Jackets and why they will be the State Champions this year!

Never Say Never

I did something today (with the help of my two closest friends and the encouragement of many others) that I never thought I would do.

I RAN A HALF MARATHON! You read that right, Allison McNeely ran every step of 13.1 miles. As I sit here typing this my body feels every step! :)

Last July I thought it would be a good idea to give myself a challenge. I wanted to train for a half marathon. My little sister had the same interest so in different states we set out for the same goal. I managed to convince my friend Priscilla (yes, we are still friends!) to do this with me. We started running...and we couldn't run very far. We had an October date in mind, then when football started and I literally had no time to train we searched for a different date, we cam up with the last weekend in February, there is a very large race in Ft. Worth. This meant our training was to being in October. After our training started we actually found a half marathon in Dallas on February 10, so we set our eyes on that one. We found a training schedule, Priscilla did a much better job at following it than I did, but we tried. Some weeks I had absolutely no time to run during the week. With crazy ice storms and things we were way off track, but we pushed on. Over the last six weeks we increased our longest run by 1 mile a week, and the longest we ever ran was 10 miles. Can I tell you I was a nervous wreck! I knew I hadn't trained properly, but I didn't want to be a failure. Our goal was to run every step, we didn't care how long it took us. Oh, Aaron was sort of a runner anyway, he had been running quite a ways and had run 10 miles in the recent past, so he decided to go along with us, he trained on his own...he runs MUCH faster than we do.

This morning after a short 4 hours of sleep (I just couldn't sleep, Megan you were right) we headed out to White Rock Lake. The race started at 8am and off we went. I will not take you mile by mile, but I will tell you each one was a struggle. Once we reached mile 11 I just kept saying "Now we have to finish, we can't quit." WE DID IT! Here are a few pictures of us running. Please do not be fooled by our smiles, we were not doing very well by the end. These pictures were taken starting around mile 11!
