Unstoppable

At least that's what the Dallas Morning News said about our running back!

In our first district game it was all Rockwall against the ever strong Garland Owls. Garland has a long history of great teams. They are good every year, it's just the way it is. Most people picked Rockwall to win the game, but they didn't expect Rockwall to win like they did.

Final score Rockwall 45 Garland 14!

I wasn't there for the exciting first half. I was covering a volleyball game which was very exciting actually. Volleyall played the Owls as well, and we lost the first two games onely to fight back and win the last three. Jacket Fight Never Dies!

Anyway, the second half of the football game was very uneventful. No injuries (they all happened in the first half while I wasn't there), just Rockwall touchdowns. Most of the crowd was gone by the end of the 3rd quarter, from both sides.

Next up Lakeview-Centennial Patriots. Theya re the surprise of the district. Typically they do not have great teams, but this year they seem to be working well together. Next week we play there on Friday night!

Rockwall vs. Southlake

Well, the Dragons of Southlake came to Rockwall. I think they were expecting a pretty easy win. I mean they just lost their first game, the week before, since 2003. I'm not kidding!!! The Yellowjackets were prepared. The Dragon's first two posessions resulted in turnovers that turned into Rockwall touchdowns. We were up 14-0! AMAZING!

A packed house (although you can't tell from the pictures of the Southlake side) yelled and screamed their way through the best high school football game I have ever seen. The best team in the state, possibly the nation, was at out house and we were not going to let them win easily. They scored to make it 14-7 only for the Yellowjackets to return the kickoff for 89 yards and touchdown!! Have I already explained how AMAZING it was!

Unfortunately, it was tied at halftime 28-28. We knew it would be a dog fight until the end, and it was. There was an unfortunate injury to one of the Dragons. He had to be taken away by ambulance, but he ended up being ok. The momentum changed at that point. The Dragons came out screaming. It is true, Jacket Fight Never Dies, and it did not that night.

The final score was 49-42 Dragons. Although we lost on the scoreboard it was not a defeat in the eyes of anyone in Rockwall. We scared them! They just came off of their first loss in years and we could have handed them #2. The Yellowjackets played with heart. The believed in themselves and the whole community rallied around them. Everyone held their heads high at the end of the night because they knew they played their best.

Next up the Garland Owls. This is our first distict game and probably the most important. Last year Garland was expected to win district, but the Yellowjackets went undefeated...and plan to do it again! Stay tuned.

I just found this. It is a video of all the touchdowns from the game and some highlights. Enjoy!

Good Maggie!

I'm not going to talk about out football game just yet. It was amazing!!! I'll post pictures and the highlights tomorrow. Today I want to talk once again about our wonderful dog Maggie! She drives me crazy most of the time. She barks a lot, she is hyper, she doesn't get along with other dogs and if given the chance she runs out of the yard or house and thinks we are playing a game with her when we try to get her back inside. However, she has protected me from 2 opossums and now theives! Don't worry, no one was in danger and nothing was stolen.

I got home last night at midnight. Kevin and I stayed up for a bit talking about the game and watching some of the Aggie game (depressing). At about 1am we headed to bed. Apparently, Maggie started barking in the night sometime, but I never heard her.

This morning I left for work at 6:30am and noticed the tool box in the bed of Kevin's truck was open. Then I noticed the back passenger window was broken. I went back inside to get Kevin. We looked at the truck without touching anything and tried to determine if anything was stolen. It didn't look like anything was touched. I noticed some blood on the door (yuck) and then Kevin said "The doors are still locked." Apparently, they didn't even make it inside the truck.

Here's what I think happened. I think they opened the tool box, decided they didn't want anything in there, and then busted the window with a fist or some body part (causing the blood on the door). Maggie must have heard the crash so she woke up and started barking and scared the idiots away! That must have been when Kevin heard her barking!

GOOD MAGGIE!

The big game

OK, so Kevin mentioned the game this week vs. Southlake, I wanted to give everyone a preview. They are good, no doubt, but they are not unbeatable, and was shown last Saturday. There are a few things to pick at, their quarter back (who has committed to Texas) threw f interceptions two weeks ago. Our defense does a phenominal job of taking advantage of mistakes! Southlake just experienced their first loss since 2003, incredible, but they will only have thre days of practice to get ready for the Yellowjackets!

Rod's sports getaway

Last weekend, my brother Rod came out to visit me in Texas as part of his birthday gift. I say me only because Allison was around for about an hour or two the whole time Rod was here. As far as the birthday goes, I told Julie earlier in the summer that if she would by him airline tickets to Texas, I would provide a trip to Aggieland to see his alma mater (Fresno State) play my wanna-be alma mater Texas A&M (I went to Texas A&M-Commerce). Now for you Californian's that would be like going to Cal State Stanislaus but wishing you went to Fresno State. Or, maybe UC-Merced (did they ever build that school?) and wanna-be Cal Berkeley.... I don't know if that translates, but that is the best I could do.

We started the trip Thursday evening with a meal at County Line BBQ (same place we took the Mack Family), but no, we did not order the 5 meat plate this time. After dinner we headed over to the Bass Pro Shops next door, which is built overlooking a huge lake. On Friday, Rod and I played a little golf at the Mesquite Golf Course, which is in our neighborhood. We both played well, but Rod was able to squeek out win by one shot (104 to 103). And yes, I have been practicing as my previous two rounds were 125 and 115.
After our fun round of golf we cooled off and prepared for Rod's first experience with Friday Night Lights. We went to see the #8 ranked Allen Eagles host the #10 fightin' Rockwall Yellowjackets. Rockwall moved the ball well in the first quarter and scored first. Allen appeared to make effective adjustments and scored three straight TD's before the half. In my opinion, the best adjustment was to throw the ball to the 6' 6" wide receiver. I really don't know how tall he was, but he may have had 10 to 12 inches on the DB's. Well, as they say, "Jacket fight never dies" so the Jackets fought back. Late in the fourth quarter Rockwall was in a position to tie the game. A rare interception was thrown by the QB in a 28-21 game. Allen ended up scoring to take a two touchdown lead. Rockwall still didn't quit and ended up getting one more score. The final was 35-27 Allen. Next up: Southlake Carroll, who just lost last night at SMU for the first time in 49 games. We sure would like to see 1-2 next to Southlake's name after next week.

So, if Friday wasn't fun enough, we decided to step it up a huge notch and head down to Aggieland. Jason came over in the morning and Allison made us pancakes before we left (one of the short visits she had with Rod). The game started at 2:30 on a sunny and fairly humid day. The temp was supposed to be about 92-94 with a heat index of 102. We absolutely baked the entire first half. We took turns buying water and getting in the shade. The medical personnel were very busy dragging folk's out on carts due to heat stress (and that was in the stands).

The first half was fairly boring with the Aggies going to the lockers with a 19-0 lead. The second half was much better as we got cloud cover and the Bulldogs got a game plan. FSU slowly fought their way back into the game, which they tied late in the fourth. The stadium intensity raised, which is what I wanted Rod to experience. The game ended up going to three overtimes, with Fresno State coming up short on a two point conversion to tie. Final 47-45 Ags. It had been raining most of the overtime periods lightly, but as soon as the game ended, the skies opened up with a huge downpour. Being drenched in rain was no problem to us after being drenched in sweat all day.Although we could have done more sports (Oakland A's at Rangers Sunday afternoon and Cowboy's at home on Sunday night) we had a great time. And neither of those games would have compared to what we just witnessed. For those of you college or high school football fans who want the real experience, head on out this way and you will see the best of both.

Gig 'em Aggies! Whoop!

Rockwall @ Midland

We traveled to Midland, Tx on August 31st. Roughly 115 people (coaches included) on two charter buses and a Uhaul made the 6 hour drive to play our first gae of the season. Just so you know a little about Midland, if we lived there our blog would be titled "Midland, it's like Bakersfield." It really is. It's in west Texas, so it actually is much dryer than here in Dallas. The nights are much cooler and there are oil rigs everywhere. Just like Bakersfield. The only difference is there are no mountains, you can see FOREVER!

The game started out well. We forced an early turnover which led to our first touchdown. It was all Rockwall from that point on. The only negative part was a significant injury to a significant player. Of course I cannot give details, but he will be missed on the field.

Here's me bossing around my student trainers. We have 8 varsity student trainers, they are all girls. Trying to get 8 girls to do what they're told without getting into an argument isn't always easy. Truly, I love them all to pieces, and am very grateful for all their hard work.

This is what we do at the end of the game. We raise our "stingers" while the school song is being played by teh band and sung by all who know the words. Kevin thinks it's kinda stupid, but I think I have caught him in the act, so he can't say too much! The final score was Rockwall 40 Midland 7, they scored in the last few minutes of the game. It was a great way to start they season!

I'm a slacker

Well, we're already to game two of our season and you haven't even heard about game 1. I promise to tell you about game 1 and include some pictures some time tomorrow. Only after you hear about our amazing win (oops, I spoiled the surprise!) I will tell you about game 2 which takes place tonight.

I know you are all on pins a needles, waiting to hear about this Yellowjacket team. So here is a short explanation of this year's team.
